JVC in Harlem
JVs in Harlem have access to a strong support network through the local support team, contacts at local universities (i.e. Fordham University), local FJVs and other physical and mental health resources that exist by virtue of being a large city. With no shortage of justice-related events and initiatives in NYC, JVs have ample opportunities to connect with their neighborhood.
Although NYC is an expensive city, there are plenty of free events to attend and inexpensive ways to engage with the culture of NYC. The JV living space is on the third and fourth floors of a church/school building with a rooftop view of Yankee Stadium. The church community that shares access to the building has created a welcoming community for the JVs. The JV house is in close proximity to many train lines and buses. There are several restaurants, coffee shops, and parks close to the house, and especially during the warm months, the streets are lively with children and families playing.
