Casas Dorothy Kazel and Ita Ford

Los Angles has been a service city since the inception of JVC in the West! There have been multiple houses and placements over the years, but JVC’s presence in the Boyle Heights section of East LA has been a constant.

JVC in Los Angeles

There were once four Jesuit Volunteer communities in Los Angeles (Casas Maura Clarke, Jean Donovan, Ita Ford, and Dorothy Kazel), named after each of the martyred churchwomen of El Salvador. JVC currently operates two of these communities: Casas Dorothy Kazel and Ita Ford. Casa Ita is located in this historically Latino neighborhood near downtown LA. The house is close to Little Tokyo and the Arts District as well. Dolores Mission church is also located near the house and is a favorite spot of the LA JVs for Sunday Masses. In 2025, JVC reopened Casa Dorothy Kazel in Central LA!
