Lazarus House

Our Kansas City community was originally established in 1982. The community had a lasting presence in the city until 2003 when it closed for several years. JVC returned to Kansas City in 2011 and continues to thrive today!

JVC in Kansas City

Kansas City was established as the western frontier of the United States. Similar to other major U.S. cities, there is a racial divide in Kansas City as a result of historic red-lining. This divide runs down Troost Avenue, with a predominantly African American East Side and a predominantly white West Side. Kansas City is unique in that it is split in half by the Missouri River, with either side of the city resting in separate states.

The JV house is in Kansas City, Missouri (KCMO). There is a large number of Former Jesuit Volunteers in this city, who have been living there for years. JVC also has a very strong partnership with Rockhurst University. Agency partners over the years have worked with migrant populations, women re-entering civilian life after time in prison, and in legal settings with immigration and domestic violence cases.
