JVC in Detroit

Detroit has a long, interesting, and sometimes heartbreaking history. As a post-industrial city, Detroit residents are impacted by many systemic social justice issues, particularly around housing, homelessness, public transit issues, and inadequate public education systems.

Support is abundant for JVs in Detroit – both formal and informal. Apart from the JVC staff, there are welcoming communities of Jesuit priests and brothers and a large network of Former Jesuit Volunteers in the city. Many FJVs live in the area because they were originally assigned to serve in Detroit… and had such a transforming experience that they just stayed! The JV house is in Northeast Detroit in the Avenue of Fashion, near Detroit Mercy and Gesu Parish.
