JVC in Cleveland
Cleveland has experienced the graces and challenges of being a post-industrial city. Like many cities, there are many redevelopment projects going on, as well as the challenge of gentrification. One can find many interesting activities in the city, including nearby farmer’s markets, neighborhood block parties and larger community events, as well as the Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame.
The neighborhood in which the JV house is located is a vibrant one. There are many former JVs, local activists, immigrants, and non-immigrants in the area, all of whom form a close-knit neighborhood. There is much effort to cultivate a sense of community on Church Avenue. The current house has been a JV house for a very long time, supported and maintained by an attentive “land-steward” and caring neighbors. In addition, the JV house is within walking distance of many of our agency partners, which makes for an easy commute!
